HeartsArts offers workshops in the following art forms:
POETRY - 30 minute Performances for a whole school followed by workshops for classes/smaller groups to write in a range of poetic forms. Themes can be specific to particular locations or can encompass wider subjects such as science, history or a set text. My HAIKU SCI-KU project has been particularly successful as all children can access these and the results can be astonishingly rich (and fun!) in their scientific communication.

ABORIGINAL ART PAINTING - I am fortunate enough to have spent some time in an Australian indigenous community and am thrilled to share my stories and intimate knowledge of Yolngu culture and language in particular, whilst giving children a broad introduction to a range of indigenous Australian art and culture. Children have sensory work, drawing in sand and can work in ochre coloured oil pastel and paint. Alternatively older children can look at decorative print work from the Tiwi Islands and create scratched images from recycled CDs.
WIRE AND WOOL SCULPTURE - 7-14 years - Create characters that can be designed to represent story characters or make them first and then use them to inspire story-writing or create characters that represent a class text. Alternatively develop creativity by providing children with skills and then encourage them to create objects that have no theme, but rather come from their own wellspring of creativity.
MUSIC - Kay is an experienced music teacher and can work with classes on Ukulele, percussion ensembles such as samba bands, creating soundscapes (to reflect an element of a set text or historical story) and can teach GarageBand sample arrangements to 10 year olds+. A one day workshop using GarageBand on iPads can support your children in using music technology (iPads not included and must be supplied by the school to the ratio of at least 1:3 iPads to children - splitters can be provided to enable children to work together on one iPad)
